The Centre d’Enseignement de la Dentelle au Fuseau (Bobbin Lace Learning Center) is a prestigious institution located in the heart of Le Puy-en-Velay, Haute-Loire, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France. Founded in 1974 by the legendary lace expert Mick Fouriscot, the center is dedicated to preserving and transmitting the ancestral art of bobbin lace-making — a tradition deeply rooted in the Velay region since the 15th century.
According to local legend, in 1407, a needlewoman named Isabelle Manour created an exceptionally fine fabric to adorn the robe of the Black Virgin in Le Puy-en-Velay. This is often regarded as the birth of lace-making in the region. By the 19th century, bobbin lace had become a major industry in Haute-Loire, employing approximately 120,000 women at its peak.
Today, the practice of “La dentelle au fuseau du Puy-en-Velay” is officially listed in the Inventory of French Intangible Cultural Heritage and recognized as one of France’s art crafts by the Ministry of Culture.

In-Person Training
On-site lace-making classes and introductory workshops are available for adults and children (starting from age 7). Hourly rates begin at €18 per session. Classes are taught by seasoned master artisans.
